My name is Maya Angelique.

I am poet, multimedia storyteller, and visual artist based in Philadelphia, PA.

Soft spaces to land, deeply rooted in a love for God, for people and for all things creative.

I am a Southern New Jersey native with a love for writing and storytelling that has been instilled in me from a very early age by my mother. My family home was filled to the brim with books featuring Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, Nikki Giovanni and my namesake, Maya Angelou. When I was seventeen years old, I attended my very first spoken word poetry event, falling in love with, and honing my craft ever since. For as long as I can remember, indulging my creativity and my passion for writing has been a powerful tool for inner healing, connecting with others and fellowship with my Creator.

As a culmination of all the above, Sincerely, Angelique is a multimedia storytelling and artistic brand producing offerings that transform hearts and spaces through poetry and original artwork. Featuring profound themes in faith, womanhood, and deep introspection, I seek to create soft spaces to land for all who come across my work.

I have had the privilege of serving as the curator of the BLK Ivy Poetry Collective, a successful monthly open mic and salon series to further uplift BIPOC writers within Philadelphia for a full calendar year at BLK Ivy Thrift in West Philadelphia. My work has garnered a fellowship with Brooklyn Poets, and partnerships with local organizations such as Mural Arts Philadelphia to write and produce spoken word videos for their National Poetry Month initiative. The success of the project led to the opportunity to perform my original piece “For CAICU”, at the mural dedication for the Norris Square community on Susquehanna Avenue and Front Street, attended by Councilwoman Lozada and curated by Marangeli Meija-Rabell.
